Subject: Asset Management At QVMAG

Dear Michael,

Today it has been drawn to my attention that the QVMAG/Council is, reportedly, disposing of assets “to the tip” – landfill whatever. Reportedly, this is to do with “clearing space” as a part of “asset rationalisation” and it has been observed that at least some of this material should be either retained or offered for sale given what has been invested in it – fiscally and otherwise.

In any event this material would be ‘public property’ and common sense tells me that there should a protocol in place to guide such processes and to ensure accountability with an appropriate level of transparency that in turn should ensure appropriate outcomes. Can you please provide me with any further information in order that I and interested people in my network can be better informed in regard to this “clearance process” and its purpose?

I am assuming that that there is no ‘accessioned collection material’ involved as that would require ‘deaccessioning’ albeit that the published QVMAG policy falls well short of ‘best practice’.

Indeed, given the provisions of SECTIONS 62 & 65 can you please advise me upon what ‘expert advice’ that is informing the current process and the ‘deeming of value’ or the lack of it and upon what criteria? Or, is it the case that it is proceeding, and expediently, upon your SECTIONS 62 authority as General Manager that this process is proceeding?

Any information that you can provide to clarify and contextualise the apparent ‘bureaucratic ambiguity’, or indeed correct any misinformation if that is the case, would be appreciated. I look forward to your response with interest.

Regards,

Ray
